Helpdesk workflow for Windows and Linux diagnostics
A useful first technical assessment needs reliable data. admin-tools provides separate Windows and Linux diagnostic paths, with selected checks, targets and structured results for support teams.
From ticket to usable data
- Ticket arrivesThe initial symptom is recorded and suitable checks and targets are selected.
- Diagnostic script is distributedThe generated Windows batch file or Linux Bash script can be reviewed before it is passed to an authorised end user.
- End user runs the checksWindows and Linux use separate commands and requirements. The Linux script requires Bash and Python 3.8 or newer and rejects execution as root.
- Log is submittedThe log is uploaded automatically over HTTPS or remains local for a manual upload. A failed automatic upload leaves the local file available.
- Results support the ticketSystem, network and Wi-Fi information is grouped and displayed for the next support decision. A result is evidence for troubleshooting, not an automatic repair or complete security assessment.
Who does what
| Role | Task | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Administrator | Select checks and targets, create the diagnostic file and configure retention. | Account |
| Support employee | Provide the file to an authorised end user and review the received result. | Account access |
| End user | Run the selected file on an authorised system and review it before execution. | Supported Windows or Linux system |
Windows and Linux data protection
A diagnosis may contain personal or otherwise sensitive technical data, including a computer name, user name, IP addresses, process names, network data, Wi-Fi information and raw command output. The selected checks determine the scope. Linux details, including its prerequisites, checks, upload behaviour and data categories, are described on the Linux diagnostics information page.
- The generated file can be reviewed before distribution and execution.
- Only systems for which the customer has authorisation may be examined.
- The upload token is part of the generated file and must be treated as confidential.
- Retention and deletion are described in the privacy policy.
